Classroom Connections Teacher Workshops

Take some time to professionally develop as you delve deep into arts integration! With classes ranging from PreK-12th grade and topics including dance, language arts, music, literacy, history, visual arts, reading comprehension and more, there is sure to be a workshop that will inspire and rejuvenate you.

These workshops were developed in association with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.


Beyond Nice: Nurturing Kindness in Young Children

Workshop leader: Stuart Stotts
Suggested for teachers of grades PreK-1
Date and Time: Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, 4-7 p.m.

Kindness is a touchstone for living. Although many children enter school with inherent tendencies shaped by their environment, teachers can explicitly teach kindness and foster a culture of compassion through a variety of activities, modalities and strategies. This workshop will explore artistic and activity-based approaches and looks at the underlying rationale behind encouraging kindness in us all.

Telling Your Story Through the Beat of Jazz

Workshop leader: Imani Gonzalez
Suggested for teachers of grades 3-6
Date and Time: Thursday, April 6, 2017, 4-7 p.m.
Fee:* $40 or $35/AASD Staff

Immerse your students in the rich history of jazz as you trace its roots and influences through African traditional chants, work songs, spirituals, ragtime and the blues. Then learn strategies aligned with literacy to engage your students in writing their own blues songs that express their emotions.

*This fee includes a CD of the songs in the workshop.

Registration and Payment

  • Registration is on a first come, first served basis
  • Class sizes are limited to maximize participants’ learning experience, so please enroll early.
  • Participants are expected to remain for the entire workshop.
  • Registration fee includes resource packet and a boxed dinner.
All sales are final. Refunds will only be honored if a workshop is canceled by the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center and the Appleton Area School District. Educators who are unable to make their registered workshop may transfer their registration to another educator. Please notify the Center, within 24 hours of the workshop, of any changes. Events, prices, artists, dates and times are subject to change.
