WHERE THE ARTS COME ALIVE!

Artist Q&A: Lenne Klingaman of Waitress

ArtistQ&A

Lenne Klingaman will play the role of Dawn, best friend of lead character Jenna, in Waitress when it bakes up something fresh at the Fox Cities P.A.C. Nov. 28 through Dec. 3. Born in San Francisco, spending part of her youth in Minneapolis and her summers in Wisconsin's northwoods and now calling Brooklyn home; Lenne took a break from the kick-off of the Waitress tour to tell us why she's excited to be back in the dairy state.

Have you been to Wisconsin before?
YES. My family has had a lake home in the northwoods for 50 years. I grew up going there every summer in my childhood. I just got married there in September. My hubby and I call it our happy place. We have deep connections to Wisconsin and much of my family lives there.

The Waitress tour just began! What has been the best part of touring the country with this show so far?
Exploring the cities and tasting the food!

What is something about the show you think people would be surprised to know?
It is based on a sweet, meaningful quirky indie film written and directed by an icon of mine, the late Adrienne Shelly. She was an amazing actress. Very respected and talented and smart. Her work should be known across the land!

What do you hope audiences take away from their experience of seeing the production?
I hope they feel a sense of connection. A connection to their own hopes and dreams for their life, tapping into what they are afraid of changing and how they can grow. I hope people recognize the importance of their own friendships and support systems in their lives. That we are community.

Pies have some interesting names in Waitress. If you had to come up with a pie name describing the show what would it be?
Sugar, Spice and Everything Nice Pie!

Finish this sentence:
Hands-down, my favorite pie flavor is… KEY LIME.
If I could swap roles with any character it would be… OGIE
The song from the show I always get stuck in my head is…She Used to Be Mine. It's just so gorgeous.
I can’t travel without my…steamer!
When I found out I was going to be visiting Appleton, Wisconsin my first thought was…PACKERS! and cheese.

Here’s your chance to say something to the audience…Do you have anything you’d like them to know? Come see this (musical) and let your heart be warmed, let your funny bone be tickled, and be ready to think and feel. This (musical) has it all. Heart, soul and depth. Oh also the music is GORGEOUS. I love you Wisconsin!!!!
