WHERE THE ARTS COME ALIVE!

Artist Q&A: Diana Huey of The Little Mermaid

ArtistQ&A
Actress Diana Huey is originally from Seattle, Washington but for the foreseeable future her home is under the sea as she portrays the beloved mermaid Ariel in Pittsburgh CLO and Kansas City Starlight’s The Little Mermaid. We asked Diana about her favorite parts of the show, how she enjoys traveling and more in this artist Q&A.

The Little Mermaid is such a classic story that so many people love, and that so many will experience for the first time at the show. What’s your favorite part about performing this story live on stage?
I just love getting to share one of my childhood favorite stories with kids today - and I also always love when I can hear the adults having a great time being whisked back down memory lane the same way I get to every show!

How does it feel to sing such classic music that most people know?
There is a definite pressure to singing such beloved and iconic songs like these, but it's also the music I loved more than any other as a kid.  Getting to perform these live is a complete JOY.  My inner child comes out every show and is having the time of her life!

Swimming is done in a very creative way in the show. How does it feel to have such a unique view of the stage and audience?
It's actually kind of hard to see the audience because of all the lights - however, the flying itself and getting to hear the audience's response is by far one of the coolest rushes ever.

Have you been to Appleton before? If so, when?
I haven't been to Appleton, but I lived in Wisconsin for about a year doing an acting internship at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater right out of college!  So excited to be back!

Finish this sentence:
If I could swap roles with any other character in this show it would definitely be….Ursula!
The song from the show I always get stuck in my head is…She's In Love
When I found out I was going to be visiting Appleton, Wisconsin my first thought was…Cheese curds!
Finish this sentence: I can’t travel without my…Phone.
My favorite part about being on the road is…Visiting new cities - and the food!

Here’s your chance to say something to the audience. What do you want them to know?
I hope you all enjoy the show as much as we enjoy getting to bring it to life for you!  This year on tour has been a highlight of my life and I am honored to get to be here sharing this experience with you!
