Roots of Resiliency: Honoring the Hmong Experience will be a night of sharing and storytelling at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center. This event recognizes and brings to the forefront the 50 years that the Hmong community has been in the United States and looks ahead to what the next 50 may bring. The centerpiece to this evening will be a complimentary performance of Literature to Life’s The Latehomecomer.

Doors will open at the Division Street entrance of the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center at 5:00 p.m. Food and seating will be on a first-come first-served basis.

5:00 p.m.  – 6:00 p.m.
Before the show begins, we invite you to take the opportunity to gather around food provided by Bowl 91 and entertainment in the Main Lobby while you check out resources and organizations that are welcoming and available to the Hmong Community. Entertainment to be provided by Rasami, Second Suns Band and Nkauj Hmoob Tshiab.

6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Literature to Life’s The Latehomecomer. Hmong actress and traditional Flower Singer, Gaosong Heu shares Hmong culture and music in a stage adaptation of Kao Kalia Yang’s moving true story. Audiences will see a firsthand account of a journey of immigration to the United States from racial discrimination to self-empowerment.

7:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Have an opportunity to meet Gaosong Heu after her performance and check out the resources in the Main Lobby.

The event is complementary thanks to support from Community First Credit Union and a collaboration between the following organizations: Appleton Area School District, Fox Cities Performing Arts Center, Fox Valley Literacy, Fox Valley Technical College, NEW Hmong Professionals, Oshkosh School District, UW Oshkosh and 4Chi Business Solutions.

Accessibility Services

  • The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center welcomes all patrons and strives to make its performances and facilities accessible to everyone.
  • Accessible seating is available on each seating level and price. Special seating requests must be made at the time of purchase.
  • Please ask your ticket agent about open captioning services when purchasing your ticket.
  • American Sign Language is available upon request, you may request this service when ordering tickets. This service is available for the Sunday matinee performance for most Broadway shows.

Amenities

ATM
There are a number of ATMs located in the downtown area. The closest ATMs are located at D2 Sports Bar, The Speakeasy Lounge, Katsu-Ya of Japan or in the lobby at The Hilton.

Booster Seats
Booster seats are available for public ticketed performances at the main coat check in limited quantities.

Coat Check
Coat checks are available and located between the main and valet entrances and on Dress Circle. There is no charge for this service and all gratuities are used to support our volunteer recognition program.

Elevators
Elevators are located on the east side of the lobby and service all seating levels. Elevators and all doors are also equipped with braille for access by persons with visual impairments.

Parent Suite
The new Parent Suite in partnership with Women’s Health Specialists is located on the Dress Circle Level and provides a quiet, private space for parents during their visit to the Center. Whether a new mother needs a lactation space or a parent needs a quiet place to calm or change a child, this space provides a resource for all parents enjoying the arts.

Restrooms
Restrooms are located on the Orchestra, Dress Circle and Grand Tier levels. A family restroom with changing table is located on the Orchestra Level. All restrooms are wheelchair-accessible.

Valet Parking
Valet parking is available for most public ticketed events at the covered drive on Division Street. Please approach the valet drive from the north. Anyone who wishes to use valet service will be charged a nominal fee (cash or credit card). Anyone with accessibility needs may drop off in the valet drive.

Will Call
Tickets held at the Will Call window can be picked up one hour prior to curtain time. Please be prepared to present your credit card, confirmation number or photo ID.

Camera and Video Policy

The use of cameras or recording devices is prohibited in the theater. However, enforcement and specific photo policies may vary at the request of the artist.

Inclement Weather

All performances will go on as scheduled, regardless of weather. No refunds will be issued. In the unlikely event that the Center cancels a performance, refunds will be promptly distributed.

Parking and Directions

  • The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center is located at 400 West College Avenue in Appleton, Wisconsin.
  • Valet parking is pay upon arrival and available on the Division Street side of the Center beginning one hour prior to all public tickets performances held in Thrivent Hall and Kimberly-Clark Theater.
  • Ample parking is available in the City of Appleton’s downtown parking structures. More information about parking is available here.

Theater Policies

  • Doors open one hour prior to showtime. Ticketholders should plan to arrive at least 20 minutes before the scheduled performance time. Please be advised that many productions require that latecomers not be admitted until there is a suitable break as deemed by the show’s director.
  • During the performance, talking, rusting of paper and noise from digital devices disturb performance and fellow audience members. To ensure guests and performers enjoy shows free of distractions, the Center reserves the right to ask any individual to leave if his or her behavior is deemed as disruptive.
  • Because the use of cell phones is distracting to others, please leave the phone number for the Center’s information desk, (920) 730-3710, with caregivers and others who may need to reach you in an emergency. The information desk phone is staffed during public performances only.
  • The Center’s standard photo policy prohibits the use of cameras or recording devices in the theater. However, enforcement and specific photo policies may vary at request of the artist.
  • Most performances are not suitable for infants and toddlers unless specified, and all persons, regardless of age, must have a ticket. If you have any questions regarding this policy or the age appropriateness of a performance for your child, please contact the Center’s ticket office at (920) 730-3760.
  • The Center is entirely smoke-free in accordance with City of Appleton Ordinance 35-05. Please be advised that performances may include smoking by artists onstage. Strobe, haze and other special effects may also be used during performances.

Ticket Policies

  • The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center and Ticketmaster are the only authorized ticket sellers.
  • Mobile tickets are the safest, most convenient and flexible way to receive and manage tickets while increasing protection against fraud. Download the mobile app to manage and purchase tickets.
  • Shows typically go on sale 6 to 8 weeks prior to the event date.
  • All performances will go on as scheduled, regardless of weather. No refunds will be issued. However, in the unlikely event that the Center cancels a performance, refunds will be promptly distributed minus any service fees charged.
  • All sales are final. There are no refunds, exchanges or cancellations.
  • Event dates, times, prices, fees and artists are subject to change.
  • A facility maintenance fee is included in the price of every ticket.
  • There are additional service fees when ordering by phone, mail, online or in person at Ticketmaster retail outlets, these fees are non-refundable.
  • There are no additional service fees when purchasing single tickets in person at the Center’s ticket office.
  • All persons regardless of age must have a ticket.
  • If your tickets have been lost, stolen or destroyed, please call the ticket office at (920) 730-3760 to discuss your options with an agent. Additional fees may apply.
  • The Center cannot guarantee that your tickets are valid when you purchase from a third party seller and you may be denied admission to the performance. We cannot reprint or replace tickets purchased from a third party seller if they are lost or stolen.
  • Tickets may not be returned to the Center as a tax-deductible donation. Please consider donating them to a local charity organization.
  • The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center aims to present diverse performances and entertainment events. However, titles may not be appropriate for all ages or personal tastes. The Center encourages prospective ticket buyers to familiarize themselves with the show’s content to ensure an informed consumer experience.
