Accessibility at the Center: What to Expect During a Sensory-Inclusive Performance
The live performing arts have a unique power to connect us, but for individuals with sensory needs, the standard theater environment can sometimes feel overwhelming. To help clear those hurdles, your Fox Cities Performing Arts Center is continuously refining our sensory-friendly services programming to ensure that our facilities are accessible to all. Through thoughtful modifications to production elements and a welcoming, flexible approach to audience expression, these specialized performances provide a safe, supportive sanctuary where creativity knows no boundaries and every guest is embraced exactly as they are.
Sensory-inclusive performances are designed to create a welcoming and comfortable arts experience for individuals with autism, sensory sensitivities or other social, learning or cognitive needs. Modifications to a traditional theater experience may include lower sound levels, space throughout the theater for standing and movement and lights remaining on a low level in the theater during the performance.
Sensory-inclusive performances are offered each season at the Center. Learn which performances are sensory-inclusive at foxcitiespac.com/events. To purchase tickets to a performance, contact a ticket agent at [email protected] or (920) 730-3760.
In partnership with KultureCity®, additional sensory-inclusive efforts available at all performances include:
- Sensory bags: bags containing a variety of items intended to reduce overstimulation, including noise-canceling headphones, strobe-reducing glasses, fidget tools and weighted lap pads
- Headphone zones: designated areas where noise levels may be high or echo-prone, which are marked with signage to suggest the use of noise-canceling headphones
- Quiet areas: calm, quieter areas designed for individuals with sensory needs to take a break from overwhelming stimuli and recharge
