Why Volunteering Matters

April 1, 2026

Volunteers play a vital role in bringing the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center to life—from welcoming guests to helping create memorable experiences. As a Leader Level Annual Business Partner and title parter of the Center’s Volunteer Program, Thrivent is a proud supporter of these efforts and the broader arts community. We sat down with Jenni Eickelberg, Thrivent’s Corporate Responsibility Manager, to talk about the impact of volunteering, what it means on a personal level and why supporting the arts continues to matter.

As a Leader Level Annual Business Partner and proud supporter of the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center’s volunteers, how would you describe the importance of volunteering, and how does Thrivent support volunteering efforts at the Center and elsewhere?
Volunteering is one of the most powerful ways we can show up for our communities. It creates connection, builds understanding, and reminds us that we all have something meaningful to contribute. At Thrivent, volunteering isn’t just encouraged—it’s part of who we are.

We support volunteering at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center by partnering with and celebrating the incredible volunteers who help bring the arts to life. More broadly, Thrivent empowers our members, employees, and partners to give their time and talents in ways that matter most to them, whether that’s through hands‑on service, community partnerships, or support for local organizations that strengthen where we live and work.

How and when did Thrivent’s dedication to volunteering and service begin?
Service has been part of Thrivent’s DNA since the very beginning. Our organization was founded on the belief that when people come together around shared values, they can make a real difference. That commitment has grown and evolved over time, but the heart of it remains the same—helping people thrive and strengthening communities through generosity, service, and meaningful action.

From a personal perspective, what would you say are some of the benefits that come with volunteering?
On a personal level, volunteering is incredibly rewarding. In fact, volunteering is one of my love languages! It offers a sense of purpose and connection that’s hard to replicate elsewhere. I’ve found that giving time to others almost always gives me something back in return—new perspectives, deeper relationships, and a stronger appreciation for the community around me. Volunteering also allows you to use your skills in new ways and be part of something bigger than yourself.

What would you say to someone who is interested in volunteering but doesn’t know if it’s for them?
I’d encourage them to start small and stay open‑minded. Volunteering looks different for everyone, and there’s no one “right” way to get involved. Try something that aligns with your interests or passions, and don’t worry about making a long‑term commitment right away. You might be surprised by how meaningful—and enjoyable—the experience can be.  Plus, it’s a great way to meet new people.

By supporting volunteering at the Center, you are also directly supporting the arts – what can you say about Thrivent’s long-term support for the arts, and why do you think creating a strong arts community is so important?
Thrivent has a long‑standing commitment to the arts because we recognize the vital role they play in building vibrant, connected communities. The arts bring people together, spark creativity, and provide opportunities for expression and storytelling that help us better understand one another.

Supporting organizations like the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center—and the volunteers who make it all possible—helps ensure that the arts remain accessible and thriving for generations to come. A strong arts community enriches quality of life and reflects the values of care, creativity, and connection that Thrivent stands for.

"I’m incredibly grateful for the volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center. Their passion and commitment are what make performances, programs, and experiences possible. I love how the volunteers at the PAC are the first people that the audience sees.  They create a memorable culture that stays with the audience long after they’ve left the performance. It’s an honor for Thrivent to support both the arts and the people who bring them to life, and we’re proud to be part of a community that values service, creativity, and connection."
