Meet Jordan Pollard - Cast member and Co-Creator of The Tap Pack
Posted Jan 31, 2020
Jordan Pollard grew up in Sydney, Australia and wanted to be a member of the original Rat Pack after being gifted a CD for his 18th birthday. Falling in love with the camaraderie of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. and their spontaneous nature and quick-witted jokes, Pollard founded The Tap Pack to bring the same passion and entertainment to audiences night after night.
What’s it like bringing the Rat Pack era to life on stage each night?
I think we have a unique spin on it all - since we are all Australians, we have definitely brought our own Aussie larrikin to a very well-known style of show - which makes it different and fun! You will hear some of your favorite songs but perhaps they will be done in a way you've never heard them before and each night is spontaneous, just like the Rat Pack used to do back in the ’60s.
Why do you think tap dance think is such an important art form to share?
I will always remember watching Singin' in the Rain as a kid, the pure joy that it brought me. If we can even give a little of joy to someone in the audience (and believe me, we try our best), then I will be a happy guy. It's an important art form to share because it can be rare to see for the general public and variety is the spice of life! We often get told afterwards by some audience members that they "didn't expect to enjoy it so much" and this keeps us trying to create new ways to impart the joy that tap can offer.
Fill in the blank…
My favorite part about touring is… suiting up just before the show and putting our hands in the circle before we take the stage - often we have no idea what will happen during the show which makes it super exciting!
If I could be anyone from the Rat Pack era I would be… Sammy Davis Junior - ultra talented and his impersonations are top notch.
When I first heard I’d be stopping in Appleton my thought was… I must have an apple!
The part in the show I’m most excited about is…The curtain going up and the live band pumping that first song!
The one thing I really want people to know before they see the show is… your favorite classic songs mixed with swinging modern tunes fused together with world class tap dance and with jokes, impersonations and good times with your 5 new best Aussie mates - what's not to love!
The Tap Pack takes the stage Tuesday, March 3. Tickets and more information is available at foxcitiespac.com.
