1.News about the big screen
2021 has already brought a full slate of movie musical news.
Most notable, Dear Evan Hansen has secured a release to theaters on September 24, 2021.
 The Color Purple musical film, also got its release, announced for December 20, 2023.
The previously announced Cinderella film remake is planning to release to July 16.
And new musical movies have also been announced as Paramount acquires Eric Idle and Casey Nicholaw's Spamalot film adaptation and that
Matilda movie musical, based on Tony-nominated hit, is in development with Sony and Netflix.
 
2. Tony Award voting nods to new timing
It was announced that Tony Award voting will happen in March. While the date of the virtual ceremony has not yet been announced, it is hopeful it will align with the reopening of Broadway scheduled for summer.
 
3. Fun for the kids!
Tony winner Idina Menzel has created her own children's program, Idina's Treehouse, which streams from her YouTube channel. Featuring reading and singing from the Frozen star, this is the perfect way to introduce Broadway to even the youngest of theater fans.
 
4. Bridgerton Gets the Musical Treatment Thanks to This TikTok Star
Bridgerton, a period drama produced by Shonda Rhimes based on Julia Quinn's novels, features a story in Regency-era London and follows the town's most illustrious families as they are scrutinized by the anonymous Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews), the author of a scandal sheet. Just as quickly as the town became obsessed with Lady Whistledown's words, the world got hooked on Bridgerton. Netflix revealed the series was projected to reach 63 million households, making it the fifth largest Netflix original series launch of all time. Now, TikTok star Abigail Barlow is answering the question: What if Bridgerton were a musical?
