Broadway Fast 5: July

There’s nothing like summer in the city…or creativity during quarantine! Check out performances, show updates and more in this month’s Broadway Fast 5.
  1. ICYMI Performances!
If there’s a silver lining in the cloud of COVID 19 it’s been having the arts to uplift and inspire us right in our living rooms! This Andrew Lloyd Webber Mash-Up, Elphaba Reunion and Ragtime moment were some of our favorites this month. Not to mention this West End The Color Purple reunion and this fun Sweet Home Chicago rendition.
  1. Broadway remains closed
Broadway announced it will remain dark until 2021. In other countries, theaters have just begun to raise their curtains. It has been announced that audiences in Britain can return to theaters on August 1. Mamma Mia! will open in Japan and The Phantom of the Opera is still on in Seoul South Korea.
  1. Show Updates
Broadway may be closed, but the buzz keeps coming as shows make changes and creative teams look to the future. For example, My Best Friend’s Wedding and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella both announced postponements, the Take Me Out and Our Town revivals both announced an opening plan and starry cast and the Spellbound movie musical and a musical based on Lost Boys both released news.
  1. Broadway takes on social equality
As the world continues the conversation on social injustice and representation, Broadway is addressing its own community through a series of incredible roundtable discussions on representation.
  1. Lin Manuel Miranda is having a busy summer
Quarantine or not, Lin Manuel Miranda is still busy. The filmed HAMILTON appeared on Disney+ starting July 3. The cast has been appearing from their homes on a variety of television programs promoting the event and reminding us all just how much we love these amazing artists. It even brought back the HAMILTON polka which gave us all a smile.
The We Are Freestyle Love Supreme documentary hit Hulu on July 17 and we just found out the In The Heights doc isn’t far behind, expecting to premiere Aug. 7.
