When I applied for the Student Ambassador Program for the Center, I knew almost nothing about it. I knew that it involved the performing arts and that was all I needed to hear. I sent in my application, and when I found out that I had been chosen, I was ecstatic.

Not only has the Center Stage High School Musical Theater Program given me some of the best learning experiences, but also opportunities that I never even thought I’d have, let alone in high school.

I have always had a passion for the arts, whether it is performing, applying makeup or creating props. But I never fully took into account all the logistics that go into running a show. I’ve learned so much in my time here in marketing, journalism and communications, while still attending workshops and performances with the other ambassadors. I have realized through this experience that there are so many other career pathways in theater besides the stage performance. It helped me grasp that this is something I want to do someday because no matter what aspect I’m in, I’ll be doing something I love.

This year, I’ve had the opportunity to be a Student Ambassador for the Center Stage Program through the Fox Cities P.A.C. What piqued my interest in applying for the Student Ambassador program was the prospect of learning more about the business and marketing side of the performing arts. Being a part of the program has not only given me the insight I was interested in but also much more.

As an ambassador, I’ve had the opportunity to see multiple shows at the Center. My personal favorite of the shows my fellow ambassadors and I have seen was Ballet Hispánico, which was at the Center in early February 2023. As ambassadors, we’ve been asked to do a few Instagram takeovers for the Center. We even managed to make our way backstage before the Tamburitzans’ performance to meet some of the performers and learn more about the show.

We’ve also had the opportunity to learn about branding and event marketing. During our meetings, we usually have one main focus whether it be discussing how to create an ad, or learning more about the Center Stage Program. At one specific meeting, we talked about professional etiquette and learned how to become better at small talk to keep a conversation flowing.

Being a Student Ambassador has taught me valuable life skills, more about the world of high school musical theater, and about the business and marketing of the performing arts. I also gained seven new friends in my fellow ambassadors and countless memories because of this opportunity.
